Katie Braid is an award-winning fashion illustrator and educator based in Edinburgh. Concerned with human touch and tactility, her work often created using smears of oil pastel, a slick of ink or crisp cut of paper.
Themes of Illustrative Enquiry
Katie’s illustrative work seeks to open conversation around traditional notions of beauty and unrealistic body depictions typically associated with the drawn fashion image. Katie takes an expressive approach to the drawn fashion figure, celebrating the imperfection, individuality and vulnerability of the direct mark. Her work an exploration of the limited parameters historically associated with fashion illustration and progressing a much more inclusive and authentic approach to who is seen in the drawn fashion image.
