Katie Braid is an award-winning fashion educator and illustrator based in Edinburgh, with roots in the industrial landscape of Tyne and Wear. Before dedicating herself fully to fashion illustration and teaching, she honed her skills in woven textiles and fashion, producing brand and creative work for Scotland's oldest artisan tartan mill. Collaborating with brands such as Ashley Williams, Charles Jeffrey, Arbikie Highland Distillery, Rolls Royce, and Celine.

Braid's work reflects her perspective as an outsider to the conventional world of high fashion. She uses unconventional combinations of mediums and raw, expressive marks to explore themes of beauty, vulnerability, imperfection, and individuality. Through her work, she looks to open a conversation around traditional notions and glossy ideals associated with the industry. Her illustrations often depict figures in unfinished forms, celebrating authenticity and personal style.

In 2024, Katie’s illustrative stop-motion work earned her the 9th FIDA 'Fashion Illustration and Digital Arts' Award. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at The National Arts Club in New York and the Institute Marangoni in Paris.

Alongside her studio practice, Katie is a Teaching Fellow in Fashion Illustration and Fashion Portfolio at Edinburgh College of Art, part of Edinburgh University.
