Katie Braid is an award-winning fashion illustrator, industry consultant and Higher Education Fashion Design Teaching Fellow based in Edinburgh. Concerned with human touch, tactility and joy of a strong line her work often created using a slick brush of ink, direct crisp line, or a smear of oil pastel.

Experience

Katie is an experienced fashion artist and educator, who leans upon her background in design, brand building and heritage to deliver authentic brand responses and visual conversations with clients. Having cut her teeth on the shopfloor, she still revels in the buzz of live events, surprise and delighting customers with her illustration and creative works.

In 2024, Katie was the recipient of the FIDA 'Fashion Illustration and Digital Arts' Award for her illustrative stop-motion work. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including group shows at The National Arts Club in New York, Institute Marangoni Paris, and London College of Fashion Wolfson Gallery. Work featuring in publications including; How Scotland Dressed the World (Lynne Coleman, Luath Press), The FIBLE 4:The Fashion Illustration Book (Patrick Morgan),  The Fible Triptych v.03 (Patrick Morgan).

An alumna of Edinburgh College of Art, on completion of her MA in Fashion Design, Katie worked in varied roles across the fashion and textiles industry before returning to ECA in a teaching capacity as part time Fashion Portfolio and Illustration Teaching Fellow, leading up fashion drawing and portfolio across the Fashion Programme.

Externally Katie has delivered drawing workshops and teaching for V&A Dundee, Dovecot Studios, The National Museums of Scotland and The Modern Calligraphy Co.
